I also teach Guidance at school and run a program for the girls in grades 5-8
During some of my guidance classes I was noticing a lot of girl bullying occuring.... What to do about this hurtful,
classroom wrecking problem?
So I decided to set up a program that helped girls get to know eachother, build confidence, build relationships
with other girls in other classes, and allow for mentorship between older girls and younger ones.
The first year I met with the girls about 3 times that year and we had guests come into the school
who spoke to the girls about beauty, hairstyles, etc.
The next few years the program has evovlved into an awsome GIRLS TIME OUT once a week!
I have run weekly classes that get the girls to use their creativity, and they also have a safe place to get to know eachother and feel
apart of a group. We have had the following classes......
knitting
card making
craft classes
quilting
candle making
calendar scrapbooking
fitness
babysitting
Each year,near the beginning of the year ,Girls time out puts on a mother daughter spa night.
For the spa night we pamper our feet, hands, faces and also relax.
Each center that the moms and daughters go to is beautifully decorated and helps make
them feel extra special. The relaxation center is the most important center we have that
evening.... I have question sheets and beauty quoates around the area with pillows for sitting
and relaxing music to listen to.... The questions are all related to real inside beauty and how
society veiws beauty.... it is a great way to facilitate a conversation between moms and thier girls
about dieting, body image and pressures the girls face everyday. I will try and put more detailed
